Mattress Answer Man Speaks

Since the beginning of August the tone of the town meetings are starting to turn. In the beginning the Democrats  made a the worst tactical blunder in their pursuit of health care reform. They didn’t read the bill nor were they very well briefed. They thought the other side would need a week to sift through it and they were handed talking points. The Republicans knowing this was their only chance to come back for years with help from those that earn their living telling Americans that Democrats are communists, anti religion, and have a European virus that makes them just want us to move our continent over to the other side of the ocean read it in less than two days.

The conservatives knew the town hall plans because the democrats had sent out notices on their blogs and through their e-mail distribution. Rush and Newt started the euthanasia talk but it wasn’t until Sarah’s death squad remark that it took hold. After all next to the Hispanics, Arabs, Chinese and most of the blacks, democrats are, in no order,on the list for deportation.It is well known that all of these groups are out to bring the United States down and what better way than to eliminate their enemy. Looking at fox’s demographics its obvious that AARP members would be the first to scare.

Fearing for their lives they joined the group of well scripted radio listeners ordered to save the world by Glen,Rush and Mike. The Democratic Senators and Republicans knew they were going to get opposition if they didn’t get a bill through before the Labor Day recess. Their task was impossible,defending a bill that wasn’t even written. There were five bills on the floors and the finance committee of both houses hadn’t even presented theirs for an appraisal. These Democratic politicians were standing dart boards for the intentionally loud radical crowds there to both disrupt and get air time to scare more people. They could pull parts from all the bills and parts from  nonexistent bills (just lie there was nothing to defend). Only the Presidents town hall meetings seemed civil and he too was trying to defend what he asked for which was long gone in the minds of many.

It is now September and the tides are slowly turning. First the worst thing that could happen to the Republicans scare campaign was the economy showing any signs of life. The Stock Market passes 9500(DOW) and stays there. Many retail stores report in with higher than expected sales and profits. Job losses have slowed down and reports from State say the stimulus package is working when there is a lot to be spent yet After blaming Obama for both Tarp and the Stimulus package the Republican talking heads had to regroup and separate them asking the question “was it Bush’s Tarp or Obama’s Stimulus that saved us?

There were other ways to keep attacking. “Look at the amount of money were spending our kids will pay for this.” That is a great battle cry that no one can admit to disagreeing with. Unfortunately anyone who thinks about it realizes that we have been doing it for decades. We are going to pay for this with inflation. We all worry about inflation but in the long run it is those with dollars hidden away that pay the most because it isn’t worth as much. The last inflation helped a generation of retirees. They mortgaged their homes put the money in money markets and made huge interest. When it was over they paid off their debt and lived off the difference. The hero Ronald Regan finally ended this terrible time.

In the last couple of days the tone has changed. In two town meetings in Maryland the screamers were ridiculed to silence by the crowd. The questions remained but they were answered intelligently. The portions of the bills that had come under attack were explained and the reasons for them were also put forth. Republican party head Stevens was yelled at in a town hall meeting at Howard University.

I will guarantee that anyone hearing his descriptions of end of life consultations and why they are important will understand the twisting it took to call them Death Squads. In just a little over a week President Obama needs to show his party leadership and fill the void left by Ted Kennedy. He needs to put every Democratic Senator in line and get health care reform passed with a government option. In my mind the fine for any company over 250 workers should be $800 per month so it has teeth. The law should also exclude all illegal aliens and immigrants not on a work or student visa that is actually performing this task.(This will prevent the problem they have in France with outsiders using their system for free)
The Democrats will loose more if they  don’t pass this legislation than if they do and it must be passed immediately with an immediate tart not one that starts two years from now.; Once in place without time for something to go wrong the Republicans will once again have to regroup and find a new attack. Finally the Democrats will show the strength of conviction that the country is looking for in them. If they are willing to loose their seats people will start to understand how important this reform is.
