Patients Choice Act or The Believe It or Not Approach
Yesterday I covered the myth of choice in the way health care is administered today. Today I will try and cover the Republican plan called the” Patients Choice Act”. It really should be titled “How to Make Nothing Sound Like Something.“
The very first thing this bill would do to keep government out of health care is to set up a committee (like home land security) to coordinate between the governments health agency’s. This should save money by eliminating duplication of effort. This is to help with changing the American lifestyle and have us eat better, exercise more and quit smoking. (I wonder if they will pay for this with tobacco taxes?) This group will submit reports and meet specific metrics set up by the bill.( If they don’t meet the goals will the threat be to break them into three agency’s?)
Under the act the CDC would create a web based tool that would give you a personalized health prevention plan similar to Harvard’s Disease Risk Plan. ( Why not use Harvard’s Plan? Wouldn’t you also have to approve the money to expand the internet before this would do an efficient job?) They would also be responsible for an advertising campaign to be reviewed every 2 year by an independent group( This is the most diabolic plan yet. They will put the advertising up for bids Fox will win only Republicans will live. They will then take this built in earmark of the future and give it to one of their buddies. The report will say it failed and they will blame it on Obama because he was President.)
They would reward Seniors that have healthier behaviors by lowering Medicare rates.(They still don’t understand the premise of insurance) (those in the cities already loose because of pollution)
They would increase the availability of vaccine and reward states who had a 90% compliance. ( I know doctors who won’t take vaccines because of the danger. There have been court cases on this subject but the republicans would force these on you through the back door or they know that in most States this is impossible. When you have no one living there it is easier to hit 90% and where do the majority of Republicans come from? States where no one lives, Sorry Texas you picked the wrong horse)
They would eliminate counterproductive programs(not explained and if you like your heath care it isn’t staying the same either) like “junk food” being bought by food stamps( of course a definition of junk food is not included. I feel sorry for all you Fruit Loops or Coco Puff fans)
Here is the one they will sell a Medi choice tax rebate. This will enable you to put 3000 dollars in your pocket after your employer gives you a 10000 dollar raise because it doesn’t have to cover your health care. ( For all you folks making 30000 or less do you really believe you are going to get a 10000 raise. Better yet how does this keep insurance companies from raising rates so they really get that 2200.)
We are now on page 8 of their bill which covers heath care savings accounts. I am not even going to comment on these. In their own report it said they don’t affect the cost of health care
My next post will start on page 9 of this act. Do your homework take out your calculator and show me the savings. So far there are expenditures going everywhere but into health care that will do some good but really there is nothing said about stopping the gouging that is going on. One last thought, The next time you hear a politician say you can’t trust government ask he or she to quit because they just told you they lie or hang around people that do.
