If You Like Your Medicare Then Beware of the Patients Choice Plan

Sunday Sep 20, 2009

coburn_c_200dpi_ContextWe are now on page 8 of the patients health care choice bill. A bill that according to those that wrote it will cost  600 billion dollars which is a savings of only 30 billion a year and really doesn’t pay for itself while decreasing coverage for the poor and giving a tax break to the rich. It also damages the Chip program by integrating the poor children into the adults plan.

They say that in addition to giving a tax break they will provide enough money to buy a private plan that best suites their needs.(I am ugly and the plan should cover elective plastic surgery. Will they cover this or will they choose which plan you can receive by limiting the amount they will pay? The last time the Republicans were in power the opened the vaults to the Pharmaceutical Companies and the Oil companies. Now they want the Insurance companies to get rich. How much do you think the lowest plan will cost?)

Realign benefits between the states and the federal government.( I can’t comment on this because if done right it will low duplication costs.)

Realign benefits so that there is a choice between institutionalized and and home based benefits.(Home costs have proven to be lower.and in some cases better care.)

Preserve Medicare for the disabled.

“Preventing reimbursement cuts to Medicare providers has become an annual battle on Capitol Hill—those cuts are slated to be 20 percent at the end of 2009 and will cost billions of dollars to prevent. Seniors have to worry about whether or not their doctor will be able to see them, because their doctor has to worry about if Medicare will pay them.”( I have personal knowledge in this area. There is a local group of specialists that are considered excellent. They take all insurances ,which requires a larger office staff to bill under the different forms, and although the Doctors don’t make a million a year they do earn in the hundreds of thousands. Or you could look at the Mayo Clinic as an example. The solution to this is simple If you refuse to honor the insurance you have no license. While I have no hatred of golf maybe more work and less golf would make them solvent.)

“Increase Choices for Seniors and Implement Fair Reimbursements for Private Plans”( For all you seniors who came out to the townhouse meetings complaining the Democrats were going to change your Medicare pay attention to this. They are going to put you out on the open market to get fleeced like the rest of us.)

The next section deals with payments for quality instead of quantity(both sides agree on this) along with Seniors making more money paying more.

Finally they get to tort reform which I believe is needed but it must not have limits . It should have way to stop the phony law suites and require that any found to be frivolous go to trial instead of a payoff. This will lower the amount of these while making those who are negligent pay.

The next four topics were either added to the Senate bill or are things both sides can agree upon:
Increasing the Efficiency and Security of Medical Records
Ensuring that Veterans Get the Care They Deserve
Giving Choice to American Indians
Establishing Transparency in Health Care Price and Quality

Now both bills are out there and both sides think their are right. The Democrats have a good Bill and can’t pass it because they won’t be reelected. The Republicans killed it so they could be elected. When are they going to really worry about Us.
