Mattress Answer Man Speaks

I must give you credit Senator Grassley you put on a good show. Just like the rest of the ultra conservatives at their town meetings they talk to those that believe in a Christian God. Unfortunately our most righteous have missed the message. Even the disciple that betrayed him was never excluded or stopped. Those that were executing him were not spurned but forgiven. Today’s ultra believers have no trouble excluding whole groups of people, their compassion is as small as their tolerance for someone Else’s beliefs.

During the Supreme Court hearings Senator Grassley your mind was made up before you ever heard Sonia Sotomayor testify. Your job was to see if she was qualified but you, who bragged about not being a lawyer just a farmer, decided that you didn’t agree with her decisions. While in some cases the higher court agreed with your assessment both the second district and supreme court opinions were close and had the make up of been different they may have agreed with her. A basic freedom  for all Americans is the right to speak their mind. You are big on freedoms especially when it comes to the second amendment yet you criticize her right to speak her mind freely when not on the bench.

Now lets talk about things you forgot to either mention or explain to your constituents. Lets start with a major fact that people in your state need to understand. When explaining the energy bill you carefully let those in attendance that you weren’t voting for the energy bill because it would raise the rates unfairly for those in your state while states like California and New York wouldn’t have theirs raised as much. You forgot to mention that those states have been primarily Democratic and the people in those states have higher taxes because they invested in nuclear power many years ago and have had air quality restrictions that

forced cleaner electricity years ago. You forgot to mention that states like Pennsylvania produce more energy than it uses because of the number of power plants in the state. You forgot to mention that people in those states also pay higher taxes because their states get back pennies on the dollar of federal taxes while yours gets more than a dollar for every dollar paid.

After showing the eleven hundred page bill to you audience Senator Grassley, you explain that only one committee has passed a bill out. You never mention the fact that there are five different plans. Somehow you forgot to tell these people that unlike medicare the Government option plan is a plan you have to pay for and in that plan could be a rule that it must pay for itself unlike those failed plans of other countries. You forgot to mention that it is still a capitalistic plan not socialism. Somewhere I missed that because it was a not for profit plan it would cost less to administer. Somewhere you forgot to tell people about all those who were there that while we have the best care in the world that our life expectancy is some where between twelfth and forty fifth in the world, depending on how you are accessing the statistics, and we pay about three times as much in dollars or much more of a percentage of our GDP.

I do complement you for protecting the money that your state gets. I even complement you for being predictable and consistent on your stances. I condemn you Senator Grassley for not giving those that trust you the real facts.
