Obama’s Organizing for America telecast 09/20/09
Posted by admin | Under Consumer Help, Health, politics Thursday Aug 20, 2009At 2:30 today President Obama addressed Organizing America on health care reform. He started out with a little history lesson about previous attempts at health care reform and social security.. He explained that many of the retorts against social security are the same for health care reform. Then he explained the fears of many people including loosing what they have. But as the discussion went on he warned that the status quo would disappear if things stay the same. The cost increases will make Medicare go in the red in just eight years. He said he favors a government option because it will put competition into the market.
The program then turned to question and answers. The first came from the internet The second from twitter and the rest from those in attendance. The most important question

was with all the opposition how will we get this done? The presidents response was that he was trying to get a bipartisan plan but that there would be a point where it may become obvious that can’t happen. He said I promised reform and we will get it even if the other side keeps its not working together stance.
Another good question was how are we going to pay for it? He said part was going to come from a subsidy that is now given to the insurance companies, part is going to come from reduced cost and part is coming from paying for results instead of repetition
An explanation of health care reform was pointed toward the fact that a government plan was only a small part of the reform but the other side wants to focus and defeat so the rest of the changes will go down with it so they won’t be affected therefore continue to give bad service and real health care.
If we can just get back to the obesity rate of the 1980′s we could save as much as a trillion dollars in Medicare. The diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments are caused by this one preventive measure. He explained the difference between the active children to the computer generation along with our diets of fast food compared to fruit snacks of the past.
The president closed by saying the easiest thing to do is nothing because your poll number go up because no one disagrees with you. He said he wasn’t sent there to do that. He was sent there to make America better. The story line the opposition want is failure to produce and he wasn’t giving that to them.
